Rainbow Breath
Here is a simple springtime breathing technique from our friends at Child Life On Call to help kids practice self-regulating and mindfulness. It’s called “Rainbow Breath”. All you need is a picture of a rainbow!
- BREATHE IN 1, 2, 3.
Start with the color red and have the child use his or her finger to trace the color red while taking a nice full inhale. - HOLD FOR 1, 2.
BREATHE OUT 1, 2, 3.
For your exhale, move to orange and repeat the same motion. - AND REPEAT!
You can print a picture or create a picture together! Another twist is to get outside. Use chalk to make a huge rainbow and practice steady, mindful breathing as your child walks up and down each color.
